The Fantasy Sex Toy Index 2026

Seven years of Google Trends data on fantasy toy searches — and how the romantasy boom changed the audience forever.

By Emily Conway · Dragon Dildo® UK · Data: Google Trends · Jan 2019 – Mar 2026

Overview

Fantasy sex toys have been a consistent and growing segment of the adult toy market for over a decade. But which categories are actually growing? Which creatures are winning? And what does the BookTok and romantasy explosion have to do with any of it?

Using Google Trends data from January 2019 to March 2026, we mapped search interest across five major fantasy toy categories: dragon, horse, monster, tentacle, and alien. We also tracked two cultural signals, romantasy and BookTok, to understand whether the fantasy publishing boom has influenced fantasy toy demand. As the UK's dedicated dragon fantasy toy brand, we thought it was time someone published the actual numbers.

Key Findings

Dragon dildos have held the top position in worldwide fantasy toy searches consistently since 2019, registering the highest average interest score of all five terms tracked. Horse dildos are the closest competitor, tracking alongside dragon throughout the period and reaching near-equal interest from 2023 onwards. Monster dildos hold a consistent third place. Tentacle dildos were near zero in 2019 but have grown noticeably from 2024, making them the fastest-growing category in the dataset. Alien dildos remain the smallest segment but show a clear upward trend from the same point.

The cultural crossover finding is the most significant. Romantasy and BookTok were essentially absent from worldwide search until mid-2021, then rose sharply to dominate. Dragon dildo searches, by contrast, were already established and consistent from 2019. The romantasy explosion did not create this desire. It gave it a mainstream vocabulary.

Chart 1 — Fantasy Toy Category Rankings: 2019 to 2026

Google Trends relative search interest (0–100, worldwide web search) for five fantasy toy categories. Dragon dildo leads throughout, with horse dildo tracking closely in second. Monster dildo holds a consistent third. Tentacle and alien dildos remain low but show clear upward movement from 2024.

Note: Google Trends applied a methodology update from 1 January 2022; a minor score recalibration around this date reflects the platform change, not a real-world shift in interest.

Dragon Fantasy vs BookTok vs Romantasy

When we overlaid dragon dildo search interest against BookTok and romantasy worldwide from 2019 to 2026, the picture became clear. Dragon dildo searches were stable throughout the entire period. BookTok and romantasy were near-absent until mid-2021, then rose steeply, eventually dwarfing all other terms. The fantasy desire was already present long before the cultural moment arrived.

"We started Dragon Dildo® before BookTok made this a mainstream conversation. The romantasy boom has brought an entirely new audience to this category: readers who would not have called themselves kink-curious but who have developed genuine curiosity through fiction. That crossover is real, and it is still growing."

Category by Category

Dragon Dildo

The established category leader for the entire period studied. Dragon fantasy predates the romantasy boom by years, demonstrating that the desire existed before the cultural conversation gave it vocabulary. The psychology behind the appeal and what makes dragon-inspired design different from conventional toys is explored in our dragon anatomy guide and our piece on why people are attracted to dragons.

Horse Dildo

The consistent second-place category, tracking dragon throughout the period and reaching near-equal interest from 2023 onwards. These two categories share a similar audience profile: buyers who want something meaningfully different from human anatomy, with a specific non-human form in mind.

Monster Dildo

Holds third place with stable interest across the full period. The category benefits from the broad appeal of creature romance generally, which the romantasy genre has significantly amplified through mainstream fiction since 2021.

Tentacle Dildo

The growth story of the dataset. Near-zero interest in 2019, consistent low interest through 2022, then a clear upward trend beginning in early 2024. This tracks precisely with the expansion of tentacle and deep-sea creature content on BookTok. The category is still small relative to dragon and horse, but the trajectory is the strongest in the dataset.

Alien Dildo

Follows a similar pattern to tentacle: flat through most of the period, with growth becoming visible from 2024. This tracks with the Ice Planet Barbarians phenomenon, which went viral on BookTok in 2022 to 2023. Our piece on why alien romance started something covers this in detail.

What This Means for the Category

The fantasy sex toy market is not a trend. The top categories, dragon and horse, have been consistent for the entire period studied. What is changing is the breadth of the audience. The romantasy boom has introduced a significant mainstream readership to fantasy and creature romance, and that readership is finding its way to fantasy toy curiosity through fiction rather than through existing kink communities.

This creates a distinct audience profile: educated, primarily female, 18 to 35, already comfortable with fantasy and creature romance through reading, and approaching physical exploration with curiosity rather than prior community experience. It is an audience that responds to editorial content, honest information, and brands that take the fantasy seriously rather than treating it as novelty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most searched fantasy sex toy?

Dragon dildos have consistently held the top position in worldwide fantasy toy searches since at least 2019, registering the highest average interest score of all fantasy toy categories tracked. Horse dildos are the closest competitor.

Has the romantasy boom increased interest in fantasy sex toys?

The data suggests dragon fantasy predates the romantasy boom by years. Dragon dildo searches were established and consistent from 2019, well before BookTok made romantasy mainstream. What the boom appears to have done is broaden the audience and give people a cultural language for a desire that was already there.

Which fantasy toy category is growing fastest?

Tentacle dildos show the strongest recent growth, rising noticeably from early 2024. Alien fantasy toys are also growing, tracking with the expansion of alien romance on BookTok since Ice Planet Barbarians went viral.

What are fantasy sex toys made from?

Quality fantasy toys are made from 100% platinum-cured medical-grade silicone: non-porous, phthalate-free, and body-safe. Dragon Dildo® uses only platinum silicone across its entire range.

Where can I buy fantasy sex toys in the UK?

Dragon Dildo® is the UK's dedicated dragon fantasy toy brand, shipping across the UK and EU with discreet packaging and billing. The full range is available at dragondildo.co.uk.

Why does dragon fantasy appeal to romantasy readers?

The appeal is explored in our guide on why people are attracted to dragons. In short: creature romance in fiction creates curiosity about non-human form that readers then want to explore physically. The literary fantasy and the physical fantasy share the same psychological root.

Methodology

Data was sourced from Google Trends in March 2026. Search terms were entered individually and as comparative sets. All data reflects web search interest, not YouTube or Google Shopping. Interest scores are relative (0 to 100) and should not be interpreted as absolute search volumes. Worldwide data was used for all five fantasy toy category comparisons. Google Trends applied a methodology improvement from 1 January 2022; a minor score recalibration around this date reflects the platform update, not a real-world change in interest. Average interest scores in the data table are estimated means derived from the relative trend data and are illustrative of trend direction.
